Geezer Butler talks about creating Heavy Metal

Interview with Team Rock

In an interview with Team Rock, Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler was asked if the band suspected they would create Metal. Check out his answer:

“We didn’t think we were that different. Cream and Hendrix were the two heaviest bands around. And we were even heavier because that’s what we wanted. Led Zeppelin had just appeared and we wanted to be heavier than that, but we didn’t think it was something impactful. The press destroyed our first album. They said we didn’t know how to play our instruments, that the songs weren’t songs, that the lyrics were rubbish, the riffs were horrible, Tony was just a clone of Eric Clapton… We thought, ‘who cares?’”
