Black Sabbath 's original bassist , Geezer Butler , reflected on the death of Ozzy Osbourne , which marks one month this week. According to him, the Madman already knew he wouldn't last much longer.
In an interview with the British magazine Uncut, Butler recounted details of how the vocalist was backstage during the Back To The Beginning recording session. The bassist noticed that Osbourne was "very quiet" and "very emotional" and already felt that his time was running out, even without imagining that he would leave so soon.
“At the last show, he was much quieter than I had ever seen him. Looking back now, I think he knew his time in this world wouldn’t be long, but not that he would be leaving so soon. He was looking forward to spending his days back in England,” he said [transcription via Guitar ].
Geezer Butler also stated that Ozzy Osbourne's death occurred after he had the chance to perform one last time and say goodbye to his legion of fans. The show was important to the vocalist, given the health problems he had been facing in recent years.
“He held on just to be able to do this show, to say goodbye to the fans. He was very emotional. It was extremely important for him to say goodbye after illness prevented him from touring for the last six or seven years. He wanted to see his fans and play with his own band and with Sabbath one last time,” he concluded
