Read Butler's statement
Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler recently spoke out about a law introduced in the New York Senate to ban cat declawing. The ban already exists in Brazil and several European countries, but it remains a common practice in the US.
Here is Geezer Butler's statement:
“I am very happy to return to the Empire State after learning from my friends at the Humane Society of the United States that there is a law introduced that, if passed, would prohibit the practice of declawing cats.
Many know me as one of the founding members of Black Sabbath, but few know that I'm one of those people who could be called 'crazy about cats'.
My wife and I have rescued many cats and have never even considered having them undergo the optional declawing surgery.
Can you imagine your fingers being ripped off down to the bone? That's the equivalent for cats having their claws removed. It's terribly inhumane.
Several New York veterinarians support the law to consign the practice to the dustbin of history. I implore legislators to stand firm and admire the majority of New Yorkers who support the law.”.
