Deadland Ritual is a supergroup fronted by the bassist of Black Sabbath
Almost two years after Black Sabbath wrapped up their massive farewell tour, bassist Geezer Butler revealed his next step: the supergroup Deadland Ritual , formed by himself, drummer Matt Sorum ( Guns N' Roses , Velvet Revolver ), guitarist Steve Stevens ( Billy Idol ), and vocalist Franky Perez , formerly of Scars on Broadway .
The quartet unveiled their first single, the epic blues-rock track “Down in Flames.” The song opens with a groove from Sorum’s drums that leads into a distorted riff from Butler and Stevens. “It’s gonna be a long, cold winter/ for saints and sinners alike,” sings Perez. The song was released with a video featuring studio footage.
The band started because of the friendship between Stevens and Perez. Butler admitted he was insecure about starting the project. “I had to get used to the idea of starting from scratch again. But I really liked the music I was listening to. It's not your typical rock or metal.”
Deadland Ritual will participate in Download Festival and Hellfest. In their performances, they will play "deeper versions of the collective past" of the band members. After that, they intend to record more material, such as more singles and perhaps an album.
