“Back in the old days, nobody chose to be a bass player,” says Geddy Lee of Rush . “You were a guitarist until someone said, ‘Well, we need a bass player and in the vote we did, you were chosen.’”

In this humorous way, the legendary Rush founder told Rolling Stone : “That’s how I became a bass player. I was voted in. Everyone wanted to be Jimi Hendrix . Everyone wanted to be Eric Clapton . Or Jimmy Page .”

In the same interview, Lee listed his 10 favorite bass players, justifying his choices: "A common denominator for me has always been the ability to play melodically. And with that, to be able to elevate the music."
