In an interview with Guitar World , Rush bassist and vocalist Geddy Lee criticized the drummers who contacted him and guitarist Alex Lifeson in the days following 's death Neil Peartin January 2020.

In the conversation, Geddy expressed his dissatisfaction with musicians who wanted to promote themselves amidst the iconic drummer's legacy. For him, the attitude was "in very bad taste" and came at a completely wrong time.

“There were many other drummers who contacted me shortly after Neil’s passing, offering themselves for the position, and that was in very bad taste for me. It was a completely inappropriate moment,” he stated [transcription via Blabbermouth].

Geddy Lee also praised musicians who were respectful towards Rush

In the same conversation, Geddy made a point of highlighting the respect shown by the musicians closest to the Canadian band, who were aware of the gravity of the situation. “People who are close to us—good friends who are successful drummers—would never insinuate something like that because they have a lot of respect, not only for Neil and the situation. They were also grieving, so they wouldn't be so selfish as to say something inappropriate like that,” he concluded.
