Gary Holt on his friendship with Kirk Hammett: "We learned a lot of guitar while high on LSD."

The musician reminisced about Hammett's days in Exodus and recounted one of his adventures.

In an interview with Metal Hammer Exodus ' new album , Persona Non Grata , Gary Holt reminisced about his friendship with Kirk Hammett in the early days, before his bandmate left Exodus to join Metallica .

According to Holt, the pair used to drink a lot of beer and use LSD, and once they broke into a bar that had caught fire just to steal some bottles of whiskey that were left behind.

“Kirk Hammett and I spent an entire summer on acid. We’d sell some old jazz records his dad had left at home and go buy a 12-pack of beer and a purple tablet of acid. We loved psychedelics. We learned a lot about guitar while high on LSD,” he recounts.

“There was this bar/liquor store called The Wagon Wheel that caught fire. Me, Kirk, and some friends went there and rescued all the whiskey bottles. The plastic caps had melted, so we put aluminum foil over the mouths [of the bottles] and secured them with rubber bands. All the carcinogens we must have drunk, man…”
