After five years without a new album, Garbage is preparing to release their new album No Gods No Masters on June 11th. Pre-orders and pre-saves are already available through the BMG label.
In a statement, vocalist Shirley Manson revealed what we can expect from the project. “This is our seventh album, and this number and its multiple meanings have affected the DNA of the work's content,” she commented. “The seven virtues, the seven pains of religion, the seven deadly sins. It was our way of trying to find some meaning in this madness that is the world and this boundless chaos we've gotten ourselves into.”
To accompany the announcement, Garbage released their new single “The Men Who Rule The World.” The alternative rock track directly criticizes the capitalist system and the foundation it provides for an essentially racist, sexist, and misogynistic society. The song can be found on all streaming platforms and also has an official music video, featuring remarkable artwork by Chilean filmmaker, painter, and animator Javi Miamor. The video's aesthetic uses collage Ku Klux Klan terrorist organization , and former President Donald Trump.
Previously, vocalist Shirley Manson had already commented on her personal views on the #MeToo movement , which exposed hundreds of cases of sexual abuse against women in the United States and gained its own branch here in Brazil as well.
“As sad and terrible as the #metoo movement is, it’s also phenomenal, unique, and unusual to hear so many female voices in the media every day, speaking about women’s experiences and female rebellion,” she said. “And unfortunately, while it probably won’t change everything at once, because I feel we have a mountain to climb, I believe #metoo is educating a whole generation of young people not to tolerate the bullshit that’s been done.”
