Just weeks before the release of their debut album, Melbourne-based metal quintet Future Static shares a new single, “Chemical Lobotomy”.
The new track came with a visceral and emotional music video, following “Roach Queen” and “The Hourglass” . The songs are part of the album Liminality , which will be released on November 24th by Wild Thing Records.
“Chemical Lobotomy” revolves around the lack of self-control and indulgence in bad habits during isolation and lockdown, also highlighting the importance of friendship during these times.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, vocalist Amariah comments: “It’s no mystery that this song is about overdoing it a bit with substances during lockdown. It was a boring period and, besides writing music, there really wasn’t much else to do. I had a huge wave of inspiration and decided to start writing the vocals for the instrumental (written by Ryan) when I was suffering from a massive hangover.”
“I got out of bed and decided to write about my lack of control in the hope that it would help me understand why I was subjecting myself to this and how to get out of it. As the song developed, I realized that if I just sang the chorus a third time at the end, it would allude to nothing changing, whereas I wanted to write something that ended on the positive side of these experiences: the connection with my friends and how we were all in this situation together.”
