South African rock band Future Radio has just released the music video for their single “Closed Doors”, from their recent album Freedom (2019).

In a time of global discontent, as lockdowns weigh heavily on humanity, the album's soundtrack reminds us, through determination and persistence, that we still have the power to build a better future for ourselves.

A drum groove introduces the song, followed by a melodic riff that repeats throughout the track as a secondary hook.

The lyrics depict a terrible situation of someone fighting to save their own life, but the chorus reminds the listener that there is always something worth living for, even if it's not always easy.

“Throughout the song, there’s a constant interplay between darkness and light, not just lyrically, but also instrumentally. The music being played on shuffle makes it sound a bit higher, in contrast to the minor key I wrote the song in. This serves as a metaphor for everyday life,” says the band’s vocalist, Johnny Future .

Visual artist and Future Radio co-founder Drikus Roets confesses that "Closed Doors" is his favorite song from the band's debut album. "That track really cheers me up when I'm not feeling motivated, and I've always been a fanatic for a good guitar solo," he describes.

For the music video, Drikus opted for a surrealist approach in which the protagonist finds himself in a dreamlike state, facing the fear of his options.

In a society driven by achievement, with the added pressure of social media, it's easy to feel overwhelmed by the number of choices everyone faces daily. The music video for "Closed Doors" confronts this problem head-on.
