Band cancels shows in Brazil.
Grim Reaper frontman Steve Grimmett suffered a leg infection and yesterday had to have his leg amputated up to the knee, according to a post on the band's official Facebook page.
Grimmet fell ill last Saturday and performed his show in Guayaquil, Ecuador, sitting down. After the show, he underwent surgery to try and remove an infection, but the operation was unsuccessful. The post, written by Grimmet's wife, stated:
“Yesterday Steve had his right leg amputated below the knee. The infection was so aggressive that it spread from his toes to his knee overnight. I spoke to him briefly and he seems to be in good spirits, laughing and making jokes. We expect him to return home next week.”
The band has cancelled the remaining dates of their current tour, which was scheduled to arrive in Brazil next week and include a performance in São Paulo on February 5th.
