The famous French festival Hellfest will not take place in 2020. The organizers had recently announced the postponement of the festival to June 18th. However, the Loire-Atlantique prefecture and the French Ministry of Culture have decided to cancel the 2020 event permanently.

The festival organizers issued a statement to fans:

"Hellbangers, the French authorities have decided that it's game over. There will be no Hellfest this year."

“In recent days, many of you were concerned about this 15th anniversary edition of the festival. You have shown us your support and affection in an unprecedented way. Just like you, we believed until the very last minute that the festival could happen this year.”

"Unfortunately, faced with this unprecedented situation, the Loire-Atlantique Prefecture and the Ministry of Culture have made the only reasonable decision and banned the festival. Therefore, the 2020 edition of Hellfest is cancelled. We support their decision and want to thank the authorities for their consideration and care for our festival."

“Aware that the risk of COVID-19 contagion will still be high in June, it would be irresponsible and very dangerous to allow tens of thousands of shirtless, thirsty fans to crowd into a restricted area. Public authorities have also told us that they would not be able to guarantee the usual security services, police, emergency units, medical support, etc., for any event like ours.”

Hellfest takes place in Clisson, France, approximately 400 km southwest of Paris.
