Freddie Mercury 's solo catalog , has filed a trademark application for 3D and virtual reality environments, according to information published by the British newspaper The Sun last Sunday, the 25th.
It is speculated that the late Queen — who passed away 33 years ago due to AIDS — will have a show featuring his own digital avatar, which may be announced soon. The initiative by Mercury Songs Limited will possibly only encompass the vocalist's solo catalog.
Hologram shows are becoming a trend among some bands and musicians. In 2022, the group ABBA "returned to the stage" using this technology, with the show Voyage , which portrays the members with the same look they had in 1979. Kiss, which ended its farewell tour in December 2023, announced that it will also do a holographic show.
Brian May's opinion
In 2023, during an interview on the Graham Norton Radio Show , Brian May said that the Queen musicians had no interest in being replaced by holograms as long as they could still perform.
“We love playing live, that’s our focus. Now, when we’re all gone, then, of course, there could be a show in our style, like ABBA’s. But while we’re here, I want to play live. We already have something like that with Freddie. When I sing ‘Love of My Life,’ Freddie appears on the screens and joins me at the end. But it’s not a hologram, it’s just a kind of older technology that we like,” the guitarist explained.
