In a recent interview, Frank Bello of Anthrax spoke to The Metal Voice about his memoir , Fathers, Brothers, And Sons: Surviving Anguish, Abandonment, And Anthrax .

In addition to discussing some of his personal tragedies that are detailed in the book, Bello also recalled one tragedy in particular that shook his Metallica and the rest of the metal world: the untimely death of Cliff Burton .

Frank Bello recalled the friendship between the two bands, who were touring together, and also the last glimpse he had of Burton before the bus accident that took his life. “We had an inside joke where we’d always say, ‘Hey, maybe I’ll see you later,’” he recounts. “The last image I have of Cliff is that his bus was leaving and he was getting out the door and I said, ‘Hey, Cliff, maybe I’ll see you later?’ and he stuck his head out of the bus and replied, ‘Maybe.’ That’s the last image I have of him and it still haunts me.”

Frank also recalled Cliff Burton's talent on the bass and praised his late colleague. "I watched Metallica shows every night and always loved what Cliff did, interacting with his bass. He was innovative, always thinking outside the box as a bassist," he commented.

Dawn of the Dead movie t-shirt that belonged to Cliff Burton was returned to the musician's family after 35 years No More drummer Mike Bordin.
