Frank Bello , bassist for Anthrax, commented on the recording of the band's new album.
The musician gave an interview to Rodney McG and revealed that Joey Belladonna [vocalist] is recording his sixth or seventh song and Jon Donais [guitarist] is starting to record the guitars.
“We’ve officially finished the drums, bass and guitar, which is great. I know my bass tracks are done, so I’m kind of excited,” commented Frank Bello [transcription via Blabbermouth ]. “There was no rush, obviously. I know it’s been eight years since our last album, but we want to make sure it’s right.”
He continues: “We’re very confident. I’m not worried about how right this is. It’s exactly where I think it is, and where the rest of the band thinks we need to be. I love that it’s more complicated for me to play. I love the challenge of it and I think we’ve stepped up the weight a bit. Again, everyone will be upholding their record. Doing this for so long, that’s how I feel. I don’t want to get complacent, I want the challenge, because I’m a fan. I’m a fan and that has to stimulate me. And it has to make me get on stage.”
Frank Bello also commented on the musical direction of the new material. “On this album there are things we’ve never done before. I like that we went down that path and just asked, ‘What the hell was that?’ And that’s great, because you want to improve your sound after that. I think that brings everyone a little closer together. I’m doing some bass stuff that I’ve had a bit of fun with and that I never would have done otherwise. I think there’s a lot of cool stuff happening vocally, in terms of melody. I’m very happy with where the next album is going.”
Frank Bello Anthrax album completely recorded by the end of the year. The band began working on the album in May 2023. The upcoming work will be their first since 2016, when they released For All Kings .
