Francis Buchholz , bassist for the classic Scorpions , died last Thursday, the 22nd, at the age of 71, after a private battle with cancer.
The musician's family announced the news through a post on Francis's Facebook page.
"It is with immense sadness and heavy hearts that we share the news that our beloved Francis passed away yesterday after a private battle with cancer. He departed this world peacefully, surrounded by love. Our hearts are broken. Throughout his fight against cancer, we stood by his side, facing each challenge as a family – just as he taught us.
To his fans around the world, we want to thank you for your unwavering loyalty, your love, and the belief you placed in him throughout his incredible journey. You gave him the world, and he gave you his music in return. Though the strings have fallen silent, his soul remains in every note he played and in every life he touched. With love and gratitude, Hella, Sebastian, Louisa, and Marietta ."
Francis Buchholz took his first steps in rock as the bassist in the band Dawn Road . Later, he left the group along with guitarist Ulrich Roth to join the Scorpions, where he remained for almost two decades, until his departure in 1992. Francis recorded the classic albums Virgin Killer (1976), Animal Magnetism (1980), Blackout (1982), Love at First Sting (1984) and Crazy World (1990), his last with the band.
During this period, he participated in the release of ten studio albums and helped consolidate the band's global success, with millions of records sold. Even after leaving the group, the musician remained active on the road, reuniting with Roth in the 2000s. Later, he joined the Temple of Rock , led by Michael Schenker , with whom he toured internationally.

“Dear fans. We have just received the sad news that our longtime friend and bassist, Francis Buchholz, has passed away. His legacy with the band will live on forever, and we will always remember the many good times we spent together. Our hearts are with Hella [Francis' widow], his family and friends. Rest in peace Francis . Klaus, Rudolf, Matthias .”
