In an interview with the website GuitarMania, Amon Amarth guitarists Olavi Mikkonen and Johan Söderberg were asked what advice they would give to new bands starting their careers in the music industry.

Mikkonen said: “Well, first of all, nowadays it’s impossible to try and make a living from this. Especially when you’re in a new band. That shouldn’t be the goal because it’s really difficult nowadays. I mean, it’s easy for us because we’ve been around for a while and we already have a name. For a new band, without a record label putting in money and without tours to support it, it’s going to be very difficult. But of course, you’ll play as much as you want, but you should never think that this is going to be your career. But of course, do your own thing and don’t listen too much to other people. Trust yourself, go with your gut feeling.”

Söderberg added: “When I started playing, it was my greatest passion. I just wanted to play music all the time. That's how it has to be. If you want to play in a band, it has to be because it's the best thing you know how to do. And if eventually that turns into a career, great. But you have to have passion for that to be your goal.”
