After a year without live music, the Foo Fighters are finally back on stage to celebrate (albeit somewhat belatedly) their 25th anniversary in grand style. Since their return to touring, the band has experienced memorable moments, ranging from their first sold-out show at Madison Square Garden in months to anti-vaccine protests outside their concerts.
In a conversation with Mark Hoppus , vocalist of blink-182 , on his podcast After School Radio , Dave Grohl revealed his pre-show "rituals," stating that the best part is having friends around – a habit that hasn't been possible due to COVID-19 safety measures.
“About an hour before the show I open a beer and think, ‘Oh, hello darkness, my old friend’ [referring to “The Sound Of Silence”]. But our dressing room used to always be full of friends,” Grohl said. “One of the things I love to do before going on stage is to be happy.”
“For me, the best way to go on stage every night is this: Gus always says, 'Do you want the lights on yet?' and I answer, 'Not yet.' I wait until the whole band is laughing about something and then I say, 'That's it, let's go.' That way you go on stage laughing, feeling happy. For me, that's the best way.”
