Pat Smear , guitarist for the Foo Fighters , will be absent from some of the band's performances after suffering a fracture in his left foot in a "bizarre gardening accident".

The band posted the statement on social media this Wednesday, the 7th, detailing what happened in a playful tone, since the "bizarre accident in the garden" was a recurring joke in the film This Is Spinal Tap and the cause of death of one of the many fictional drummers.

Read the full statement:

"In classic rockstar tradition of bizarre gardening accidents, Pat Smear apparently started the new year by smashing his left foot to pieces. This means he will unfortunately miss a few shows while the multiple broken bones in his foot heal. We will miss our beloved Pat as much as you do, but we want him fully healed and back on his feet as soon as possible.".

The band also announced that multi-instrumentalist Jason Falkner , known for his work with Beck, St. Vincent , and Jellyfish , will replace Pat at the scheduled shows.

Foo Fighters have three shows scheduled for January in Mexico, Los Angeles, and Texas, but the band reaffirmed that Pat Smear should return in time for the Welcome To Rockville in May and the European tour planned for June.
