Foo Fighters released the song "Today's Song" this Wednesday, the 2nd, in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the band's debut album, released on June 26, 1995. The track is the band's first new song since the album But Here We Are , from 2023.
The song addresses the changes of the last few years, as Dave Grohl stated in a press release [via Ultimate Classic Rock ]: “Over the years, we’ve had moments of unbridled joy and moments of devastating heartbreak. Moments of beautiful victories and moments of painful defeats. We’ve mended broken bones and broken hearts. But we’ve walked this road together, with each other, for each other, come what may. Because in life, you simply can’t walk it all alone.”
Grohl also thanks former drummer Josh Freese – who left the band in May 2025 : “Needless to say, without William Goldsmith Franz Stahl ’s experienced wisdom, and Josh Freese’s thunderous magic, this story would be incomplete. Therefore, we express our sincere gratitude for the time, the music, and the memories we shared with each of them over the years. Thank you, gentlemen.”
The vocalist also makes sure to mention the late drummer Taylor Hawkins , who died in 2022 : “And… Taylor. Your name is spoken every day, sometimes with tears, sometimes with a smile, but you remain present in everything we do, everywhere we go, forever. The immensity of your beautiful soul is only comparable to the infinite longing we feel in your absence. We all miss you beyond words. The Foo Fighters will forever include Taylor Hawkins in every note we play, until we finally reach our destination.”
