Foo Fighters will be honored with an Icon Award at the 2021 VMAs

The band has also been confirmed as a musical act for the MTV awards ceremony

Foo Fighters have been announced as the band to be honored with the Global Icon Award at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs). Dave Grohl has also been confirmed to perform at the event.

The honor has already been bestowed upon some of the greatest icons of global music, such as Queen and Whitney Houston , as it is an award created to "celebrate an artist or band whose unparalleled career and continued impact and influence have maintained a unique level of global success in music and beyond."

In addition to receiving the trophy, the band returns to the VMA stage for the first time since 2007 and is nominated in the categories of Best Rock Video, Best Choreography, and Best Cinematography with the video for "Shame Shame," a single from the album Medicine at Midnight , released in February.

The VMA awards ceremony will take place in New York City and will be broadcast live from the Barclays Center on September 12th, starting at 9 PM on MTV. Public voting is open on the event's official website until September 3rd.
