Josh Freese is no longer part of the Foo Fighters . The drummer, who had filled the spot left by Taylor Hawkins since 2023, revealed in a post that he received a call from the band last Monday informing him of the decision to "go a different way with the drummer." According to him, the band offered no explanation.
“Regardless, I enjoyed the last two years with them, both on stage and behind the scenes, and I respect whatever decision they deem best for the band,” he wrote. Freese also recalled that, in his 40-year career, he had never left a group at the decision of his colleagues. “I’m not angry — just a little shocked and disappointed.”
Despite the surprise, the musician reacted with maturity and lightness. "I've always worked as a freelancer and moved from one band to another, so I'm fine," he stated. He even ended the message with good humor: "Stay tuned for my list 'Top 10 possible reasons why I was kicked out of the Foo Fighters'."
Freese's departure marks the end of an era in the recent history of the band led by Dave Grohl. He took over on drums at a delicate time, shortly after the death of Taylor Hawkins in March 2022, and was an important part of the shows that marked the Foo Fighters' return to the stage. To date, the band has not yet officially announced who will fill the position from now on.
Josh Freese is known for his versatility and has played with names like Nine Inch Nails , A Perfect Circle , Guns N' Roses , The Offspring , among others. His time with the Foo Fighters, although short, was celebrated by fans and critics alike.
