Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins passed away suddenly and unexpectedly this Friday, March 25th. The news was announced on the band's official Instagram account, which states:
“The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and unexpected death of our beloved Taylor Hawkins. His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with us forever. Our hearts are with his wife, children, and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect during this time of unimaginable hardship.”
Foo Fighters were in South America this week for a series of shows and were scheduled to perform Friday night at the Colombian festival Stereo Picnic, but the performance was canceled before the announcement of Hawkins' death. According to G1 , the local broadcaster Caracol reported that the artist's body was found in a hotel in Bogotá, the country's capital, but there is still no official information about the circumstances of his death.
The band was scheduled to headline Lollapalooza Brazil this Sunday, the 27th, but the Stereo Picnic organization announced the cancellation of the remainder of the group's South American tour due to the tragic event.
Before joining the Foo Fighters in 1997, Hawkins played with Sass Jordan and Alanis Morissette . In 2004, he formed his solo project Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders , in which he played drums and sang. He was chosen as the best rock drummer in 2005 by the British magazine Rhythm .
