Foo Fighters vocalist Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl was honored in Los Angeles for his volunteer work with the organization Hope The Mission Hope in the City of Angels benefit event , held last Saturday, the 18th, at BMO Stadium, celebrated personalities who actively work in social and community causes.
Beginning of a journey of solidarity.
Grohl is known not only for his legendary rock career , but also for his off-stage engagement . He has dedicated countless hours to preparing meals and cooking at large barbecues organized by Hope The Mission, helping people experiencing homelessness and social vulnerability.
During his speech at the event, the musician explained that the initiative arose spontaneously:
“Once, on my way to the studio, I saw how many people were on the streets on a cold February night. I thought, ‘These people need to eat.’ So, I decided to cook and distribute food. We knocked on the door of Hope The Mission and said, ‘How can we help?’ And that’s where it all started.”
Dave highlighted that the simple act of offering a plate of food can transform someone's day — and also the day of the person helping.
“There’s something special about looking someone in the eye and handing them a plate of food. When someone asks for ‘some beef and pork’ and says ‘God bless you,’ they really mean it.”
According to the musician, the desire to continue helping only increased.
“After the first time, we thought: 'How can we do more?'. And we started feeding 500, then 800, then 2,000 people. It's always been like that — one step at a time,” Grohl said.
Recognition for Dave Grohl's dedication.
Hope The Mission, considered the largest rescue organization in the United States, highlighted the artist's commitment and humility.
“Dave Grohl inspires through his quiet compassion. He dedicates days to preparing and serving meals without seeking attention or recognition. Just as his music brings hope to the world, his actions bring hope to his community,” the organization stated in an official note.
Currently, the organization provides shelter, meals, medical assistance, and essential services to thousands of people daily in Los Angeles.
An example of empathy and action.
Beyond music, Grohl continues to show that small actions can have a big impact. His attitude inspires fans and fellow musicians to get involved in social causes.
“There’s something simple and beautiful about this gesture — it’s love, it’s care, it’s compassion. And, of course, it’s also a great barbecue,” the musician joked.
