Journalist analyzes the success of Metal in the country

An article published today (March 21st) in the Folha de São Paulo newspaper, entitled "Increase in Tours Indicates that Brazil is the Country of Metal," describes the success of Metal in Brazil in terms of concerts.

Compared to international Pop artists and other genres, foreign Metal bands are much more frequent on Brazilian stages. The article compares, for example, the number of shows by artists such as Madonna and U2 with Heavy Metal bands. While the singer has visited Brazil three times and Bono Vox's band has come on four occasions, the main Heavy Metal bands far surpass these numbers: Megadeth, the champion of visits to the country, has already been to Brazil on 12 different tours, while Deep Purple and Iron Maiden have come on 10 occasions each. The article includes a graph that illustrates the success of the genre (see below).

Another factor the article considers to illustrate the growth of Metal in Brazil is the number of bands present at Rock In Rio. In its first three editions, the festival featured 5 Heavy Metal bands on stage. In 2011, the number grew to 11 bands. In the last edition, 13 heavy metal bands were present.

Finally, the article discusses the success of smaller music venues, where over 100 international bands performed in 2013.
