Floor Jansen explains why she didn't make a metal album for her first solo album.

The singer recently released her first solo single, "Fire".

Floor Jansen , best known as the vocalist for Nightwish since 2013, is experimenting with her solo career for the first time. In early March, the singer released her first solo single, "Fire," which, to the surprise of many, is not a metal song.

During an interview with Chaoszine , the singer explained why she chose to do something different with her first solo project. "You already know what I'm like in a metal band," she said, beginning to explain that nobody knows who she really is when you take away everything that's already known about her.

"So what does Floor Jansen sound like when she's not doing metal or rock? And I quickly realized that I didn't know how to answer that question, because I've never written that way. I don't think in terms of pop lyrics."

She continues: “But I could never do it completely alone, so I needed to find songwriters who would understand this, and that’s why working with Gordon Groothedde , a Dutch producer, helped a lot too. When we started writing together, my writing began to make sense.”

Jansen also mentioned that she had always tried to develop her vocals as much as possible, but never her songwriting, and so she felt the need to work in a different way, one that would challenge her songwriting side.
