Flea , bassist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers , announced last Wednesday, the 14th, the release of his first solo album, Honora , scheduled for release on March 27th by the label Nonesuch Records .
Along with the announcement, Flea released the single "Traffic Lights," which features Thom Yorke , the lead singer of Radiohead , who shares vocals and contributes piano and synthesizers to the track.
In a press release, Flea commented: “ Deantoni [ Parks , drummer] and I played what became 'Traffic Lights' on the first day. Something about it reminded me of Atoms For Peace, so I sent it to Thom. Just knowing him, I thought it would be a rhythm and a sensibility he would identify with. And I was right, he did.”
"With a beautiful melody and lyrics about living in an 'upside-down world.' And how do you make sense of things when you're receiving all these false and real things? Everyone has their own way of dealing with the world. But he's simply the warmest and most spontaneous guy in the world."
This work marks a creative shift beyond his career with the Californian group Red Hot Chili Peppers, bringing together influences from jazz, improvisation, and experimental music in a project that he composed, arranged, and in which he plays both bass and trumpet throughout the tracks.
In addition to Yorke, the album includes collaborations with artists such as Nick Cave and brings together musicians associated with the modern jazz scene.
Flea also announced a series of live performances in more intimate venues in various cities across North America and Europe for May.
