This year, Sleaford Mods are coming to Brazil for the first time in their career. The band, however, has been around for a long time, having formed in 2007. The English post-punk duo consists of Jason Williamson as vocalist and Andrew Fearn . Their lyrics deal with political themes and the working class. Their last release was the 2023 album UK GRIM , and this year they celebrate the tenth anniversary of the cult classic Divide And Exit.
The duo's work is recognized and referenced by Iggy Pop . Furthermore, they have participated in segments such as the one where they convince Robbie Williams to take his clothes off. Another interesting fact is that Williamson appeared in the final episode of the famous series Peaky Blinders .
Five songs to get you started with Sleaford Mods
Firstly, the chosen song is "Jobseeker" from the 2020 album, All That Glue. Its lyrics discuss job interviews that nobody wants, but that people are forced to do to maintain their social benefits in England.
Over the years, several musicians have recorded with Sleaford Mods. Their next song, “Nudge It,” features Amy Taylor from the excellent band Amy And The Sniffers , who are expected to tour Brazil next year.
In "BHS," the duo criticizes the British Home Stores , which went bankrupt and left its employees in terrible conditions while its owners fled.
Next we have “Tweet Tweet Tweet”, which maintains its critical tone by touching on current issues such as social media addiction and the rise of right-wing extremists. With a steady beat, even after ten years, the track continues to resonate today.
Finally, “Tied Up In Nottz” is one of the band's most listened-to songs. It's a good track to introduce the band to new listeners as it encapsulates the energy of Sleaford Mods.
In November, the band arrives in Brazil, with the opening act being the Brazilian band Black Pantera . The show will take place at Carioca Clube in São Paulo, where the audience will finally be able to see them live.
