One of Russian President Vladimir Putin's top advisors used lyrics from Five Finger Death Punch in an editorial attacking the United States.
In the article, advisor Vladislav Surkov quotes excerpts from FFDP hits such as "Wash It All Away" and "I Apologize".
Possibly influenced by recent shows in the Russian capital, Surkov praises the American band, declaring them "the best modern US metal band, along with Disturbed" .
FFDP guitarist Zoltan Bathory responded via a post on his Facebook:
“Well… It’s especially interesting that we happen to be in Russia right now. We did a fantastic show at the Moscow stadium… The energy from the audience was incredible. We love our Russian fans just as much as they love us… They were at the airport when we arrived, they follow us all over Europe, the US, even South America… We see them and we see that they’ve sewn half-Russian, half-American flags everywhere… We’re family… Music unites…”
I guarantee: Among the people, there is NO hatred… There is no Cold War here. So let's not create one. I grew up on this side of the Iron Curtain under the communist regime… I REALLY remember the Cold War… And even back then, although they told us through the communist media that the US was 'the enemy', nobody, and I want to emphasize, nobody in their right mind, believed that… We loved American music, American culture, and the American people. We understood the difference between 'propaganda' and reality… The other day I met some Iranian boys in an elevator and while we were taking pictures they told me 'please don't believe the media. They are lying to you! We don't hate the US' and they went on to explain to me that normal people (especially younger people) don't feel that way… The media has to be careful with its words – and choosing more audience over peace is irresponsible.
So let's tone down this hysteria and try more dialogue…”
