The title is succinct and direct; this is a song about the drama experienced by all war veterans, at least that's the message of "Wrong Side of Heaven" by the band Five Finger Death Punch .
FFDP is a band closely linked to the American military. Whenever possible, they visit bases and hold fundraising campaigns for war veterans.
This song addresses a very common problem among them, called PTSD (Post-traumatic stress disorder), and how these veterans are completely forgotten by Americans in general.
Today, there are approximately half a million veterans with this type of problem without any psychological support, and it is speculated that more than 300,000 veterans are living on the streets.
Furthermore, on average, 5,000 veterans take their own lives every year due to these situations.
The band's guitarist, Zoltan Bathory , said about their situation: "In one of the richest countries in the world, especially one that spends so much money on military equipment and the military, this situation is simply appalling."
Several of the soldiers featured in the video are real people, not actors.
"With open arms, I stand alone.
I am no hero, and I am not made of stone.
Whether I am right or wrong, I can hardly tell,
for I am on the wrong side of heaven and the right side of hell."
Soldiers are not heroes; they simply follow their rules, but they are not made of stone either, only trained not to show their feelings.
Neither angels nor demons, but they end up bearing the burdens of all who start a war.
The last sentence refers precisely to the actions they commit, which cause them to be further and further from heaven, and closer to hell.
“I saw the devil today, and he looked a lot like me.
I looked away, I turned away.”
Probably this “devil” was an enemy soldier, and he realized he was just another ordinary civilian in that unfortunate position.
“I’m getting closer to the end every day.
To the end, to the end, to the end.”
Here, the situation of many of these soldiers is depicted, as death is always imminent.
A great example of this is in the movie Born on the Fourth of July , starring Tom Cruise , who finds himself in a rather complicated situation that is experienced by many soldiers in the country.
