Lords of Chaos will showcase the life of Euronymous, one of the biggest names in the Norwegian black metal scene.
The film Lords of Chaos , based on the true events of the Norwegian black metal scene in the 90s, will be released in February.
Director Jonas Åkerlund , the original drummer for Bathory , wrote and directed the film. It is described as “a chilling story based on true events. A dream that becomes a nightmare for a group of teenagers who spiral out of control.”
The film will follow the life of Øystein “Euronymous” Aarseth , founder of the band Mayhem , who was murdered by Kristian “Varg” Vikernes of the band Burzum . In the story, Euronymous “becomes obsessed with creating true black metal music. He creates a phenomenon by using shock value to put the band on the map. But the line between fiction and reality begins to blur. Acts of violence and murder shock the nation.”
The director said this is a personal story. “I know these people. All my best friends are still in the metal scene. When they started burning churches, we all knew who was behind it. I’ve been trying to make this film for a long time.”
