Fernanda Lira vocalist of the death metal band Crypta is known for her extreme and guttural vocals. But one of the artist's first and greatest influences when she started singing was Tarja Turunen , former vocalist and founding member of Nightwish .
Discovered on her father's VHS tape of the live album From Wishes to Eternity, Tarja became a turning point and a reference for Fernanda, who quickly deepened her knowledge of the band and began to sing along. “It changed my life. Tarja instantly became my muse. I memorized that entire DVD in a week,” she recounted on social media.
Despite being able to perfectly imitate the artist's notes, the lack of technical training at the time had consequences. "I literally sang Nightwish 24 hours a day, and I even developed two calluses and a cyst on my vocal cords because I sang the same way, but technically everything was wrong," Lira explained.
After sleeping in line for a concert to finally see Tarja live, Fernanda Lira finally had the opportunity to meet the singer during an autograph session held at Galeria do Rock in São Paulo in 2013. “I felt sick and panicked when I found out, I NEEDED to go. It was a limited number [of people], but my friends and I got up early and managed to get in. I could only tremble, cry, and tell her how important she was to me,” she said. “In short, Tarja was my great passion in metal.”
