Fernanda Lira , vocalist and bassist of Crypta , is known for her guttural voice in thrash and death metal, but she has also surprised fans by singing jazz and often shares rehearsals of other styles on social media.
During a conversation with Nando Machado on The Wikimetal Happy Hour , in which she discussed the release of the album Echoes of The Soul , the musician also spoke about her love for artists that many people probably wouldn't even imagine.
“I make a point of saying it: I have a tattoo of Amy Winehouse , I have a tattoo of Beyoncé , yes sir,” she said. “In fact, sometimes people say, ‘Oh, that girl is a poser,’ it’s nonsense. People confuse things.”
When asked if she had ever considered a musical venture outside the realm of metal, Fernanda confirmed. “Yes, I have thought about it, because outside of metal I really like blues, which is my second passion, especially old-school, roots blues. I also really like soul; my favorite vocalists are related to soul: R&B, jazz, blues,” she said, citing Etta James, Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone , and Dinah Washington as major influences.
"So I really want to, I love singing clean, I really want to have a side project singing soul, blues, a kind of Aretha-esque funk with my clean voice, but I need time," she continued.
Despite currently having an open-minded attitude towards music, Fernanda Lira confesses that it wasn't always that way. "I used to be a true headbanger, I even hated Amy Winehouse before she died, who knows why," she revealed. "I understand where that comes from, but I feel other needs, mainly because of my voice.".
