Felipe Machado participated in the fifth and final episode of the documentary series Algoritmos do Rock , last Sunday, the 12th. The production is by the Secretariat of Culture, Economy and Creative Industries of the State of São Paulo (Sceic). The series presents a portrait of rock music from São Paulo, starting in the 1950s. Focusing on the 1990s, this episode features an interview with guitarist Felipe Machado, from the São Paulo-based heavy metal band VIPER . Founded in the 1980s by the musician, the group, which is still active, had great success in the 1990s, with international tours and important shows – including participation in the first edition of the Monsters of Rock festival in São Paulo in 1994.

In his testimony about the band's trajectory, Machado recounts that VIPER emerged amidst an effervescent phase of world rock, when heavy bands like Metallica, Guns N' Roses , and Nirvana . “We have to remember that the 90s were the period when MTV Brasil gained immense strength and popularity, an important channel for introducing foreign artists to the Brazilian public. The channel was essential for the popularization of Brazilian rock in the 90s,” Machado comments in the documentary. He also highlighted the importance of the first edition of Monsters of Rock, held at the Pacaembu stadium in 1994.

With episodes of approximately 30 minutes, Algoritmos do Rock explores the different phases of the genre in Brazil, based on the trajectory of artists who marked an era. As a central part of each episode, the interviewees indicate ten essential songs from the decade portrayed, recalling stories and influences that shaped Brazilian rock.

The episode's release date is a tribute to singer Andre Matos , who was part of the band's original lineup and would have turned 54 on September 14th. After leaving VIPER, the vocalist joined the bands Angra and Shaman, in addition to releasing albums in a solo career. He passed away in 2019 at the age of 47.
