A study by ZipHealth revealed which rock and metal bands appear most frequently on sex playlists.
The research was based on interviews with over a thousand people about the music they listen to or don't listen to during sex. More than 11,000 songs from 150 playlists were also analyzed to understand which songs and artists are most popular at any given moment.
Genres that appear most frequently in sex playlists
The results showed that among eight musical genres – pop, hip-hop, R&B/soul, indie rock, alternative, EDM, heavy metal, and classic rock – metal appeared in seventh place as the most used for sex playlists, while classic rock appeared in last place.
Artists who appear most frequently on sex playlists
However, metal appeared in the top 5 of the list of artists most frequently found on sex playlists. Deftones came in third place, followed by The Weeknd and Kanye West . The group is the only rock/metal act to appear in the top 10.
Other artists that appear on the list as the most played rock and metal artists at the moment are Slipknot and System of a Down.
Music and sexual habits
Heavy metal also came in fourth place when it comes to sex duration, following hip/hip/rock, classical, and alternative. The study shows that people who listen to metal during sex have an average of 30.8 minutes of sex.
The results are even more specific than genre and duration. Nine Inch Nails was the number one artist related to the keyword BDSM , and the song "Closer" was also the number one song related to that keyword.
According to the study, 72% of metal listeners revealed having fetishes, placing the genre at number 1 in the category. Metal fans are also in third place when it comes to having a one-time sexual encounter (82%), participating in orgies (21%), and participating in threesomes (54%).
