Farewell to our heroes.

How the death of our idols affects the entire world of heavy metal music.

Text written by Wikibrother Lucas David

The rock world has felt a great sadness in recent days. The loss of the great vocalist Mike Howe , who recorded incredible albums with Metal Church (listen to Blessing in Disguise at maximum volume on the radio), less than 24 hours later the legendary former drummer and founder of Slipknot , Joey Jordison , and less than 24 hours after that we lost the legendary bassist of ZZ Top , Dusty Hill . Three names in different styles, but each one marked their generation. What shakes us most is the age at which they both passed away (Mike at 55, Joey at 46 and Dusty at 72) and how often this has happened in the music industry.

Slipknot has always been a band that has created a lot of noise since its inception, full of controversies and the famous "love it or hate it" attitude, but its impact on heavy music is undeniable. Speaking on a more personal note, for a long time I turned my nose up at the band's sound, I couldn't relate to it, since I enjoyed the more traditional rock made by bands like Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath. However, thanks to the monster Joey Jordison, I got closer to their music, learned more about the band, and they ended up becoming one of my favorites. It's difficult to express how someone can influence a generation so much, making their drumming the most incredible thing you can ever hear.

Like other fallen heroes such as John Lawton (ex- Uriah Heep and Lucifer's Friend ), Alex Lahio ( Children of Bodom ), and Tim Bogert ( Vanilla Fudge/Cactus/Beck Bogert & Appice ), to name a few, Slipknot's number one (he also played in Murderdolls , Vimic , and Sinsaenum ) leaves behind a legion of heartbroken fans. Many who felt his loss speak of how he inspired them to play drums, to enjoy the band, and even to embrace the Nu Metal movement, which wasn't considered metal at the time.

These losses make us realize how rock is a style that unites everyone as if we were a family. Metal Church, which was releasing albums, and ZZ Top, which had also been active for a long time, have legions of fans who felt the losses deeply. These icons who are leaving, not only because of their age but also because of fatalities, leave us with their music and their legacy, and it is up to us to be prepared for their retirement. Listen to the aforementioned Blessing in Disguise , Slipknot's first album, and Eliminator by ZZ Top, and keep these incredible records in your memory.

I also leave here a remembrance of the great artist Orlando Drummond, who passed away on the same day as Joey Jordison, and who will forever be remembered for his work.
