Corey Taylor , vocalist of Slipknot , had a troubled childhood and began using drugs at the age of 10. As he approached adulthood, having survived several overdoses, the young man attempted suicide for the first time – on the very day Faith No More was scheduled to perform at the 1990 VMAs.
The musician recounted the story of that fateful day in an interview with Loudwire, transcribed by Wikimetal , conducted specifically to correct errors in Taylor's Wikipedia biography. "I was at rock bottom, I was 18, about to turn 19. I swallowed some pills and my ex-girlfriend's mother came looking for me, found me and took me to the hospital," he narrated.
Fortunately, doctors were able to reverse Corey Taylor's condition, who was living with his grandmother at the time. "She picked me up from the hospital, she was very disappointed," he recalled.
Upon arriving home, Taylor lay on the couch and watched Faith No More perform for the first time at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMA). “It was epic, incredible. It energized my desire to make music; they were so good, so powerful, and so different from anything I had seen. They really lifted me up, and that's when I started composing and making music again,” he said. “If it weren't for Faith No More, I wouldn't be here.”.
