Last Friday, the 31st, Fabio Lione returned to Belo Horizonte for a show on the Epic Tales Brasil Tour at Mister Rock.
With the venue opening at 8 PM, the first show of the night was performed by the Rio de Janeiro band Innocence Lost . The venue wasn't very crowded at the start of the performance, but the musicians delivered an excellent set of original songs, getting the audience to sing along and interact with the band.
At 9:30 PM, it was the turn of the second opening band, Enorion . The band features the musicians who accompany Fabio Lione: Christoffer Lopes and Gabriel Oliveira (guitars), Pablo Guillarducci (bass), Rafael Braz (keyboards), and Thiago Caieiro Felippe Castello takes over the vocals .
With the venue a bit fuller, the band performed original songs and two highlights that had everyone singing along: the themes from He-Man and Knights of the Zodiac .
At 10:30 PM, the main show of the night began: Fabio Lione . The first twelve songs were from Rhapsody , with the epic introduction "Lux Triumphans" preparing the audience for the first classic of the night, "Dawn of Victory," sung at the top of their lungs by everyone.
The setlist continued with “Land of Immortals”, “Wings of Destiny”, “Holy Thunderforce”, and “Emerald Sword”. Before the latter, Fabio, who interacted a lot with the audience, introduced it as Rhapsody's “Carry On” (referencing the Angra classic), in other words, the band's greatest anthem.
The next song, “The Magic of the Wizard's Dream,” was introduced with a story about Christopher Lee during the recording of his participation in Rhapsody and the filming of a music video in the Czech Republic. The song had a strong emotional appeal for part of the audience and, at the end, Fabio asked everyone to shout looking at “the sky,” in homage to Sir Christopher Lee.
The lively “Wisdom of the Kings” and “Unholy Warcry” set the stage for “Lamento Eroico,” sung in Italian. During this song, Fabio interacted with the fans, offering them the microphone to sing along to some parts. To close out Rhapsody , we had “Sea of Fate” and “Village of Dwarves.”
Then came the time to play Angra . Contrary to what one might expect, Lione didn't include songs from his time in the band, but rather from the Edu Falaschi . The set included "Rebirth ," featuring vocalist Nina Guimarães , followed by "Nova Era." Next, Nina returned for a different version of "Bleeding Heart/Agora Estou Sofrendo," and, in the final chorus, they sang the Portuguese version by Calcinha Preta .
Vision Divine fans , the setlist included "Send Me an Angel" and "Violet Loneliness," which thrilled the band's admirers.
From that moment on, the evening's cover song
As everyone knows, Lione is also an opera and included in his set the beautiful “Time to Say Goodbye – Con te partirò” by Andrea Bocelli . Next came “Still Loving You” by Scorpions , which had the audience singing the classic chorus at the top of their lungs, and a tribute to Luciano Pavarotti with “L'elisir d'amore”. Then came “Carrie” by Europe , and to end the night on a high note, a cover of “Wasted Years” by Iron Maiden .
Fabio's vocals are fantastic, and his band performs the songs faithfully to the original recordings. Furthermore, it's worth noting that the musicians play as the opening act for about 40 minutes and then immediately perform a show lasting just over 2 hours.
