In a recent appearance on The Wikimetal Happy Hour , Fabio Lione Angra vocalists . When asked about the difficulty of singing these tracks, especially those recorded with Andre Matos , Fabio said it's all a matter of identity and vocal personality.
“I really like 'Carolina,' it's one of my favorites. I also really like 'Gentle Change' and 'Winds of Reality,'” she lists when commenting on her favorites. “Of course, the way of singing is different. Andre had a thin, high-pitched voice, maybe falsetto, and it's like imagining him singing 'Lamento Eroico' by Rhapsody ; it's not really his style. He talked to me a lot about that. He liked a Rhapsody song and asked, 'How do you sing that song?' And I also talked to him because I remember the first time I heard 'Time,' 'Never Understand,' and also 'Carry On.' Those are songs that leave you kind of 'Wow.'”
Fabio further adds that the most important thing for a rock and metal vocalist is to have personality and a "personal style," which he believes Andre Matos has achieved, citing singers like Freddie Mercury , Ozzy Osbourne , and Axl Rose .
“I think the important thing is to evolve in your own style, and Andre was good at that because he managed to arrive at a personal style, and that’s important, especially for a vocalist,” he reflects. “My mother doesn’t listen to metal, so most of the vocalists she listens to, she says, ‘It sounds like the same guy who sang yesterday.’ Because most vocalists have the same way of singing, so to someone outside of rock and metal, it can sound like the same guy. And that doesn’t happen when you have something unique. Andre had [that]. He had a vocal timbre, a musical style. More than vocal technique, I think personality is important.”
