Evanescence  released the lyric video for the track “Afterlife” on the morning of Thursday, the 27th. The single will be officially released next Friday, the 28th.

The lyric video features exclusive footage from Devil May Cry , an animated action-fantasy series for adults, which will be released by Netflix on April 3rd.

"Afterlife" is part of the series' soundtrack, based on the Japanese video game franchise of the same name, created by Adi Shankar and produced by Studio Mir.

In a new interview with the website Audacy Music , vocalist Amy Lee recounted how the song came about [transcription via Blabbermouth ]: “ Mako [ Alexander Seaver ], who is the guy who did the soundtrack work for this series, started this song and contacted me and said, 'Hey, check this out. Would this be cool? Would you sing on it?' And it just kept building until we finished the song together and then we could say, 'This is an Evanescence song. Let's bring the band in here. And let's take this all the way.'”

The singer continued, “And we went into the studio with producer Nick Raskulinecz , who we did our last two albums with and we love working with him. This is the first of many [new tracks]. We’re working on a lot of songs now for the new album, but this one came through Netflix, and we’re really excited.”

This is the first new song from the American band since the album The Bitter Truth (2021).
