Evan Rachel Wood reacted to Marilyn Manson with a cover of "You Get What You Give" by the New Radicals .
After months of seclusion, Manson returned to the stage with Kanye West for a listening session of the album DONDA , in which he participates as a singer and songwriter on two tracks. Following the repercussion of the invitation extended to the musician, Evan spoke out during a performance alongside guitarist Zane Carney .
“I’ve been saving this for a while, but I think the time has come,” she said before starting the song. She explained that she only had a few minutes backstage to rehearse the song before going on stage.
In the lyrics of the 1998 hit, Marilyn Manson is quoted in the bridge with Courtney Love . “You’re all fake / Run to your mansions / Show up here and we’ll kick your asses,” the excerpt says. At that moment, Evan raised his middle finger. “To the other survivors who got slapped in the face this week. I love you, don’t give up,” he wrote on social media while sharing the recording.
The actress had already shared her own experience with domestic violence and sexual abuse a few years ago. In February 2021, Evan publicly accused Brian Warner, Manson's birth name, of being responsible for the physical, psychological, and sexual violence she suffered. A number of other women have already filed lawsuits against the musician.
