HBO has just released the first full trailer for Phoenix Rising , which recounts the abuse experienced by actress Evan Rachel Wood at the hands of Marilyn Manson , with whom she had a relationship between 2007 and 2010.
“I’m here today to talk about Brian Warner, better known to everyone as Marilyn Manson,” the actress declares in the trailer. The production uses Wood’s story as a main thread to discuss the various women who denounced the musician.
In the documentary, in addition to recounting his experiences with the musician, Wood also discusses how it is to fight against certain laws that hinder the reporting of sexual abuse in some cases. For example, there is a statute of limitations that prevents victims from reporting crimes after a certain time. Wood briefly mentions in the trailer how this can complicate the process, as many people can take up to 10 years to understand that they have suffered abuse.
Directed by Amy Berg ( Deliver Us from Evil ), the two-part documentary premieres on HBO and HBO Max on March 15.
In the first part of the documentary, which was shown at the Sundance Film Festival , the actress recounts that her then-boyfriend, Brian Warner , filmed a real sex scene without her consent for the music video for "Heart-Shaped Glasses." "We had talked about a simulated sex scene, but when the cameras rolled, he started penetrating me for real. I hadn't agreed to that," she says.
This is the latest in a series of accusations made by Evan Rachel Wood since the actress named Brian Warner as her abuser and gave a full account of the physical, sexual, and psychological abuse she suffered at the hands of the singer. In December, Rachel Wood alleged that Warner threatened to sexually assault her 8-year-old son .
