One of the greatest icons of world music, Eric Clapton , returns to Brazil for two unmissable shows in São Paulo, on September 28th and 29th, 2024. Known as the "God of Guitar" and revered as one of the most influential guitarists of all time, Clapton promises a performance that will span decades of hits and touch the hearts of fans of all ages. The opening act will be guitarist Gary Clark Jr. , winner of three Grammy Awards in 2020.

Eric Clapton is a living legend of music. Born in 1945 in England, Clapton began his career in the 1960s, becoming a member of iconic bands such as The Yardbirds, Cream , and Derek and the Dominos . It was during his time with Cream that Clapton earned the title of "God of the Guitar," thanks to his virtuosity and unique style that combined blues, rock, and psychedelia in an unparalleled way. His ability to create memorable and exciting solos set a new standard for rock, influencing generations of guitarists.

Throughout his solo career, Eric Clapton released albums that became true masterpieces, including 461 Ocean Boulevard (1974) and Slowhand (1977). The hit “Layla,” a collaboration with Derek and the Dominos, remains one of rock's most iconic songs, while “Tears in Heaven,” written after the tragic loss of his son, revealed a deeply personal and vulnerable side of the artist.

Clapton is the only musician to have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times – as a member of The Yardbirds, Cream, and for his solo career. Furthermore, he has been awarded 18 Grammy Awards and continues to be a dominant presence on stages worldwide, even after more than five decades in the business.

Eric Clapton is not just an exceptional guitarist; he is a central figure in the history of music. His unique style, which blends blues with rock, helped define the sound of an era. Clapton was instrumental in popularizing the electric guitar as a primary instrument in rock, and his influence can be felt in various musical genres, from blues to heavy metal. His ability to convey profound emotions through his compositions and solos is what distinguishes him as a true master of music.

Controversies

However, not everything in the legend's career was rosy. Clapton struggled with heroin and alcohol addiction, which affected his personal and professional life.

In the 1970s, he faced serious health problems due to substance abuse, which impacted his musical productivity and led to periods of absence from the stage.

Furthermore, the guitarist was involved in controversies related to his personal life, especially regarding his relationships. His extramarital affair with Pattie Boyd , who at the time was married to his friend and former Beatle George Harrison , generated considerable media attention. Clapton wrote the famous song "Layla" inspired by Boyd.

More recently, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Clapton caused controversy by criticizing vaccines against the virus. He stated that he suffered serious adverse effects after receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine and positioned himself against mandatory vaccination, in addition to publicly supporting anti-lockdown protests.

Eric Clapton's shows in São Paulo promise to be a celebration of his 60-year career and a unique opportunity to see one of the greatest guitarists of all time live. With a repertoire that will include classics such as "Wonderful Tonight," "Cocaine," "Crossroads," and many others, these performances will be unforgettable for all lovers of good music.
