Eric Clapton does not intend to perform at venues that require proof of COVID-19 as part of safety protocols for resuming live performances.

Following the news that the UK government has made proof of age mandatory for "nightclubs and events with large gatherings," Clapton has spoken out against the measure and intends to boycott venues under this restriction.

“I feel it is my duty of honor to make my own announcement: I would like to say that I will not perform on any stage where there is a discriminated audience present,” the musician stated in a Telegram conversation with Robin Monitti Graziadei , an anti-lockdown activist architect, confirmed by Pollstar (via Loudwire ). “Unless there are measures in place to ensure that all people can attend, I reserve the right to cancel the show.”

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the guitar icon has caused controversy for his strong stance against mandatory vaccination, opinions that even damaged personal relationships . Despite having been vaccinated, Clapton reported strong side effects from the vaccine and questioned its safety. "I've been a rebel all my life against tyranny and arrogant authority, which is what we have now," he stated at the time.

The argument of "discrimination" is widely used by anti-vaccine movements and has generated criticism of the Foo Fighters to the stage , as the band requires proof of immunization for ticket sales. Since some people suffer from delicate health conditions and certain age groups cannot yet be vaccinated, the event organizers are requesting a COVID-19 test to allow access in these cases.
