Singer and songwriter Erasmo Carlos died this Tuesday, November 22nd, at the age of 81.

According to Metrópoles , the musician was rushed to the Barra D'or Hospital in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, yesterday morning, the 21st, to treat a condition caused by edematous syndrome, an illness he had been dealing with for some time.

In October, Erasmo Carlos was hospitalized again and had to cancel two shows he was scheduled to perform in the United States due to his health condition. “I’m very much alive and, if all goes well, I’ll be leaving the hospital by Wednesday. According to information obtained by TV Globo and published by G1 , Erasmo Carlos's condition was serious when he arrived at the hospital yesterday, and the medical team opted for intubation.

Last week, Erasmo Carlos was awarded a Latin Grammy in Best Rock or Alternative Music Album in Portuguese Language category for his album O Futuro Pertence À… Jovem Guarda , released in February of this year.

Erasmo Carlos made his mark on Brazilian music history as one of the pioneers of rock in the country, both as a singer and songwriter, and was known by the nickname "Tremendão," the title track of his third album.
