The Sun published yesterday
The English tabloid newspaper The Sun published a note last weekend alleging that Iron Maiden is being sued by a musician named Brian Quinn, who claims to have written a line of lyrics for "Hallowed Be Thy Name".
The article (photo below) states that Steve Harris and Dave Murray are being sued for £200,000 for copying the phrase "Mark my words believe my soul lives on / Don't worry now that I have gone" from the song "Life's Shadow" by the band Beckett, which says "Others are glad to see him gone / Mark my words my soul lives on". Interestingly, Dave Murray is mentioned in the lawsuit but has no songwriting credits.
Iron Maiden once recorded a cover of the band Beckett, as the B-side of the single "2 Minutes to Midnight".
In the article in The Sun, the newspaper says that a spokesperson for the band believed the issue had been resolved years ago and that the band's management will carefully review the claims made by Brian Quinn and Barry McKay, the rights holder of "Life's Shadow," who are asking the court to review how much Iron Maiden profited from the track.
The Sun's story was taken down, but printed copies were distributed yesterday.
