Empire State Bastard , a band founded by Simon Neil and Mike Vennart of Biffy Clyro , released their new single "Moi?" this Tuesday, the 22nd. The song is part of the project's first studio album, which will be released in September of this year.
With a captivating sound, Empire State Bastard's music travels from theatrical rock to extreme metal in "Moi?", creating a compelling narrative by satirizing the current era of ignorance and post-truth in which society has plunged. "[The lyrics] talk about people who, no matter what you talk about, will never see the truth, even if you put it right in front of them – and I'm guilty of that at times. Ignorance can seem like a badge of honor these days, with people being stubborn and unwilling to learn. I can't believe we've reached the point where that should be valued," comments vocalist Simon.
In the singer's own words, these critiques of humanity's way of life promise to permeate the band's entire debut album. The compositions are defined as "the most misanthropic and nihilistic I've ever written," while the album's overall sound promises a dose of violence. "Simply unbridled hatred in musical form," Vennart summarized.
In addition to the Biffy Clyro duo, the Empire State Bastard lineup for live performances features other well-known names in the world of rock and metal: the legendary Dave Lombardo on drums and Naomi Macleod on bass.
Previously, the band had already released the songs "The Looming," "Harvest," and "Stutter." The album Rivers Of Heresy will be released on September 1st (see cover and tracklist at the end of this article). Pre-orders are available here .
