Elton John was the first headliner for Rock in Rio 2026 to be announced this Tuesday, the 25th. The singer, who hasn't been to Brazil since 2017, will perform on the Palco Mundo stage on September 7th.
Elton John 's participation in the festival is special and historic for one particular reason. The artist performed what was supposed to be the last show of his career in 2023. On that occasion, Elton concluded his Farewell Yellow Brick Road in Stockholm, Sweden, to an audience of 30,000 people.
The singer, who had been retired from the stage since then and with no indication of any possibility of a return, will give a unique and exclusive performance at Rock in Rio 2026 for a sea of Brazilian fans.
The performance will have an even greater cathartic flavor, since Elton John didn't have a chance to say goodbye to Brazil on his final tour. The singer's last visit to the country was in 2017, with the Wonderful Crazy Night tour . The following year, Elton began his farewell tour, which was interrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic and a hip fracture suffered by the artist in 2021, ending only five years later.
