Slipknot 's new drummer , Eloy Casagrande , shared a video on Instagram of his drumming performance during the song "The Heretic Anthem." This time, the performance took place at a festival. During recent shows, the band has brought back the jumpsuits used in 1999, as well as incorporating elements into their masks that hark back to that classic period. All this because the band is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
How Eloy Casagrande joined Slipknot
In a recent interview with Tone-Talk , Jim Root recounted how the Brazilian drummer joined Slipknot. According to him, they didn't even consider another name. Root said Eloy himself contacted them and sent several videos. Furthermore, Slipknot's original drummer, Joey Jordison, was a major influence on him. Finally, bassist Alessandro Venturella already knew Eloy and is always up-to-date with musicians in the scene, so choosing Casagrande was a natural step.
Regarding Eloy, Jim said: “He’s so humble. And you can tell he lives and breathes his craft, to the point that I see his passion and it ignites my passion for my instrument. And Brazilians, South Americans in general, are so passionate about what they do. Our producer went out to dinner with four or five promoters from South America, and they were all very enthusiastic. They were all like, ‘It’s so great that you have a Brazilian drummer in Slipknot now. We feel like we’ve won the World Cup.’ It’s a cool feeling. And God, he fits so well. I don’t know, man. I mean, there are so many things I could say about it. I’m happy with what happened and when it happened. And we’re lucky to have him – we’re very lucky to have this guy.”
Prior to Slipknot, Eloy played for 13 years in Sepultura , and left abruptly during rehearsals for their anniversary tour. See below the video of Eloy playing “The Heretic Anthem”.
