On the eve of starting their farewell tour, which will last 18 months and celebrate the band's 40th anniversary, Sepultura announced the departure of Eloy Casagrande from the band.
The announcement of the drummer's departure caught the members of Sepultura by surprise, who issued an official statement on their social media lamenting the event and announcing the new drummer, Greyson Nekrutman.
Hours later, Eloy Casagrande issued an official statement on his social media:
“I would like to announce my departure from Sepultura. Being part of the biggest Brazilian metal band was one of the best and richest experiences of my life. I am grateful to each of the members and the entire team.
It was a story of almost 13 years, in which I had the opportunity to learn and contribute to each song, show, and recording. These were years of great dedication, intensity, and commitment. There were 3 albums that were very well received by critics, countless shows on 5 continents, and many stories to tell. So, first and foremost, I reiterate my gratitude to Sepultura and the fans for everything we went through.
Perhaps this doesn't make sense to the band's fans at this moment, but decisions had to be made thinking about new cycles to come. We are made of choices, and they are not always easy. My departure will never erase my respect and gratitude to the band.
Fortunately, there is much more to come. I hope to continue making a lot of music and art. See you soon on the road!”
